Joseph J. Compitello

 

Joseph has been a named partner at the firm since its inception. Mr. Compitello graduated from the Lawrenceville School in Lawrenceville, NJ and attended Lafayette College in Easton, PA, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree.  While at Lafayette, he was a member of their Division 1 baseball team and the fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta.  Joseph then attended the New York Law School, where he earned his Juris Doctorate.  Upon graduation, he passed both the New Jersey and Pennsylvania bar exams. As a result of his high performance on the Pennsylvania Bar Exam, he was requested to and indeed graded essays for the bar preparatory company Barbri.

Prior to being admitted as an attorney, Mr. Compitello worked as a law clerk for a firm in Trenton working full time and going to law school at night. Mr. Compitello did all this while providing for a spouse and two children.

He began his career as an associate there upon admittance to the bar. During his time there, he co-wrote the winning brief in the appellate division case, Golden v. GMAC, 401 N.J. Super. 198 (2008).  Subsequent to this, he worked for a firm in Bucks County, Pennsylvania handling exclusively criminal matters in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties.  In 2009, he returned to New Jersey working for a statewide firm concentrating on criminal, family, and litigated matters.  In 2012, Joseph moved to another firm in Tinton Falls to become the Managing Attorney for the firm’s South Jersey section.  While at this firm, Joseph handled the firm’s criminal, family, and business matters.

Joseph is admitted to practice law in the State of New Jersey, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and US District Court.  His practice and expertise is extremely diverse handling matters in the criminal, family, chancery, and civil divisions.

 Mr. Compitello’s family law experience spans all areas of family law from a custody matter to a divorce, he particularly focuses on matters that require a plenary hearing specifically restraining orders, alimony termination and out of state relocation cases. During the course of his career, he has tried over 100 cases to verdict in New Jersey and Pennsylvania including jury trials in both the criminal and civil divisions. 

Mr. Compitello’s criminal experience is just as expansive. Mr. Compitello has had indictments as severe as first degree murder dismissed and as rudimentary as a simple traffic ticket. His criminal practice includes not only county trial work but efforts at the appellate division and in Federal Court. Mr. Compitello has represented clients faced with the most severe in New Jersey including murder, aggravated sexual assault, carjacking, kidnapping, armed robbery, and money laundering. Most recently, he has gained national notoriety representing an individual charged with aggravated arson among other charges.

In addition to trial work, Mr. Compitello heads the firm’s real estate division which handles personal and commercial closings, personal and commercial tenancy disputes, zoning and environmental  along with statutory compliance.  He was recently recognized as a Property Law expert in New Jersey Superior Court. Mr. Compitello also acts on retainer for many local businesses advising them of legal responsibilities and aiding them with legal needs on call. 

 He has been cited in all forms of media including radio, print, television and electronic.

In his free time, Joseph enjoys spending time with family, coaching youth baseball teams, and playing golf. 

Joseph works out of the firm’s Forked River office and resides in Berkeley Township, Ocean County with his wife Michele and children Joseph and Michael.
